Masindi woman arrested over alleged abortion, burial of fetuses
"We had tried to reconcile the couple without success. I was shocked to learn that my daughter had allegedly terminated the pregnancy," Andama said.
Masindi: Police in Masindi District have arrested a 25-year-old woman over allegations of aborting and secretly burying twin fetuses in Bwinamira Village, Budongo Sub-county.
The suspect, Paska Anviko, is accused of terminating a six-month pregnancy before allegedly burying the fetuses.
According to Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Region Community Liaison Officer and Acting Regional Police Spokesperson police were alerted by residents who became suspicious after noticing that Anviko was no longer visibly pregnant.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged abortion followed a domestic misunderstanding with her husband.
“Police visited the scene, exhumed the twin fetuses and conveyed them to Masindi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The suspect is currently detained at Masindi Central Police Station as investigations continue,” Mugisa said.
He added that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete and appealed to the public to seek medical care and counselling whenever faced with pregnancy-related challenges instead of resorting to unlawful actions.
Meanwhile, Philip Andama, Anviko’s father, said the family had been aware of ongoing marital disputes between his daughter and her husband.
“We had tried to reconcile the couple without success. I was shocked to learn that my daughter had allegedly terminated the pregnancy,” Andama said.
Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
