The suspect fled after the incident and remains on the run as police continue with investigations.

Mubende: Police in Mubende District have launched a manhunt for a 45-year-old man accused of assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute, leading to her death.

The suspect, identified as Byaruhanga Daniel, allegedly attacked his wife, Kyarisima Merabo, 38, at their home in Kabulooka Village, Gogonya Parish, Kitenga Sub-county on the night of July 6, 2026.

According to the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, the couple reportedly got into a disagreement that escalated into a violent fight at around midnight.

“The suspect allegedly assaulted his wife and later rushed her to a dispensary in Kyenda Town Council after her condition deteriorated,” SSP Kigozi said.

Police said Merabo succumbed to her injuries on July 7, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m. while receiving treatment.

Detectives from the Mubende homicide squad visited the scene, documented evidence, and recorded witness statements. The deceased’s body was taken to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The suspect fled after the incident and remains on the run as police continue with investigations.

SSP Kigozi condemned the persistent cases of domestic violence in the region, attributing many of them to alcoholism, substance abuse, poverty, mistrust, and disrespect among couples.

“We appeal to couples to resolve their differences peacefully and avoid factors that often escalate into violence within families,” SSP Kigozi urged.

Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts to apprehend the suspect continue.
