Masindi: The Resident District Commissioner for Masindi, Emmy Ngabirano, has warned the health workers in Masindi district against extortion and bribery.

Ngabirano, who represented the state minister for water, Aisha Sekindi, as the chief guest during the celebrations for the belated Independence Day for Masindi, spotted Bwijanga Health Centre IV charging pregnant mothers who want to deliver and exhorting money from them.

The district’s belated independence celebrations were held on Thursday last week at Kikingura Primary School Play Ground in Bwijanga Sub County, Bujenje County.

Ngabirano therefore gave the health workers an ultimatum of two weeks to iron out all the messes they have at the health center, noting that if it comes to the worst, they will employ the security forces, including the police and UPDF.

We couldn’t get a comment from the acting district health officer for Masindi Jino Abiriga on the allegations since his known phone number was off by press time.

Health workers at Bwijanga Health Centre IV have been for long accused of charging patients an unspecified amount of money in order to get services, especially in the maternal department.
