Masindi: The Masindi Municipal Mayor, Ronald Kyomuhendo Businge, has warned parents against child labor and spending extravagantly during this festive season.

In an exclusive interview with this publication Tuesday evening, Kyomuhendo said child labor is against the law of this country, and it’s punishable.

He also stressed that in most cases, during the long third-term holiday, parents tend to involve their children in sugarcane harvesting, weeding, and hawking vegetables in town, something he says is against the law and is punishable.

Kyomuhendo noted that children involved in sugarcane harvesting, weeding, or hawking vegetables in town are at risk of accidents and being prey to other dangers like kidnappers and learning bad characters, among others.

The politician also asserted that the only gift parents can give their children is education, thus appealing to parents to invest in their children’s education.

‘’The only gift parents can give their children is education. If we don’t invest in our children’s education, they will become problems in the future. I’m therefore appealing to parents to invest in education for their children,’’ he appealed.

On the same note, Kyomuhendo advised parents and guardians to desist from spending extravagantly during this festive season and to save money for next year’s school fees.
