Masindi enumerator dismissed over indiscipline

The national population and housing census commenced on May 10, 2024, and it will officially end on May 19, 2024.

Masindi: Authorities in Masindi Municipality have dismissed one of the enumerators for lack of discipline,  and not delivering beyond expectations.

According to Sanon Dhaala, the deputy resident district commissioner for Masindi, the allegations against the enumerator were substantiated after community complaints.

Dhaala said that the enumerator’s poor performance, lack of respect for community members, and use of inappropriate language during the exercise led to his dismissal.

‘’Fortunately, excess enumerators were trained to replace the dismissed individual, ensuring the census process continues smoothly,’’ he said.

Dhaala, however, said that the exercise is moving on smoothly, with few cases of obstacles registered, including refusing to be enumerated, stressing that big-headed enumerated have been warned, and so far, one dimissed.

According to Dhaala, the exercise was moving slowly in the municipality compared to other subcounties in the district.

Gerald Komugisa, the Masindi district population officer, emphasized the importance of adhering to training guidelines to avoid similar issues.

He, however, said that the exercise is moving on smoothly, and some areas have been completed and enumerated, and they have switched enumerators to other uncompleted areas.

Komugisa is optimistic that by Sunday they will have enumerated everyone in the district.

Last week, on Friday, Sarah Kyogondeze, a resident of Kisoga Cell in Bulima Town Council in Bujenje Constituency, Masindi district, was arrested for refusing to be enumerated.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, said that the suspect would face the charge of sabotaging government programs.
