Masindi CAO to blacklist beneficiaries for misusing government funds

She explained that some groups were disqualified for being nonexistent, while others were mobile.

Masindi: Masindi district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Phiona Sanyu has threatened to blacklist beneficiaries in the district who misuse the funds they received under the different government programs.

According to Sanyu, the blacklisted beneficiaries will not be considered for any other government program again.

Sanyu was speaking to this publication during an exclusive interview at the district headquarters.

She clarified, however, that in case the beneficiaries’ project is hit by natural calamities, the members can notify the district community development department which will assess the extent of the damage.

Sanyu added that if the project is assessed, the beneficiary will be considered for another program.

The CAO also disclosed that the district received money for 48 groups under the micro-projects from the office of the prime minister and out of which 25 groups have received their funds: 9 from Masindi municipality and 16 from Masindi district. Sanyu further disclosed that over 134 million shillings has so far been disbursed to the groups.

She explained that some groups were disqualified for being nonexistent, while others were mobile.

Sanyu said there are serious groups that have already signed memoranda of understanding with the district and implored the beneficiaries to use the money for the intended projects.

Godfrey Bahemuka, the District Community Development Officer, noted that the memoranda of understanding will enable government officials to ably carry out monitoring of the beneficiary groups.

Bahemuka also disclosed that the groups that put the money they get under the different government programs to good use will be able to benefit from other government programs and emphasized the need for accountability.
