Man on run for killing wife in Mityana

The suspect remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to track him down and bring him to justice.

Mityana: Police in Mityana District are hunting for a 35-year-old man accused of killing his wife after she reportedly refused to return to his home following a domestic dispute.

The deceased has been identified as Namatovu Sherina, 23, a resident of Nakitolo Cell in Ttanda Ward, Ttamu Division. Her body was discovered in a cassava garden near a railway line on Sunday morning.

According to Lameck Kigozi, the spokesperson for the Uganda Police Force in Wamala Region, the suspect, identified as Nsubuga Dube of Kasozo Village in Zigoti Town Council, had repeatedly tried to persuade the deceased to return home after she left him with their child.

Police say the suspect allegedly threatened to harm the woman on several occasions if she declined to reconcile with him.

It is alleged that during an introduction ceremony held in the deceased’s village on Saturday night, the suspect was seen talking to Namatovu and urging her to return home with him. The pair reportedly left the function together at about 12:35 a.m.

Investigators believe a confrontation later broke out as they walked away from the ceremony after the woman reportedly refused to return to the suspect’s home. Police say she was strangled to death.

A homicide team from Mityana Police Station visited and documented the scene. Preliminary findings revealed abrasions around the victim’s neck, while the body was found partially undressed with signs of a struggle nearby.

The body was taken to Mityana Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

The suspect remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to track him down and bring him to justice.

Police have urged anyone with information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest to report to the nearest police station.
