Man kills wife in domestic brawl in Madi-Okollo

The body has since been transported to Nebbi Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Madi-Okollo: Police in Madi-Okollo District have launched an urgent manhunt for a man identified only as Matuwa, who is accused of brutally assaulting and killing his wife, Ajidiru Agness, in what authorities describe as a domestic violence incident fueled by alcohol consumption.

The tragic event reportedly occurred on May 27, 2025, around 8:00 PM in Ndubu West Cell, Ndubu Ward, within Okollo Town Council.

According to preliminary investigations, a violent domestic altercation between the couple escalated, leaving the 38-year-old housewife with serious injuries.

Agness was rushed the next day to Blessed Medical Care Clinic, where she succumbed to her wounds on May 28 at approximately 7:00 PM.

SP Asea Collins, the Police Public Relations Officer for the West Nile region, confirmed that the suspect is currently on the run, and that police are actively pursuing all leads.

“Our investigations are ongoing, and we are committed to apprehending the perpetrator. We urge the public to share any information that may assist in locating the suspect,” said SP Collins.

Scene of Crime Officers who examined the body reported fresh bruises on the victim’s forehead, consistent with a brutal physical assault. The body has since been transported to Nebbi Hospital for a postmortem examination.

This incident adds to the troubling trend of domestic violence-related murders in Uganda. According to the Uganda Police Force’s 2024 Annual Crime Report, the country recorded 4,398 murder cases, with approximately 18% linked to domestic violence.

The West Nile region alone documented 142 murder cases in 2024. Authorities say they are intensifying community policing and targeted investigations in an effort to curb violent crimes, particularly those rooted in family and intimate partner conflicts.

Police continue to appeal to residents of Madi-Okollo and the wider West Nile sub-region to report any sightings of the suspect or provide information that could lead to his arrest.
