Ruthless Arua man caught on camera beating ex-girlfriend arrested
The gut-wrenching footage has sparked a firestorm of outrage across social media platforms.

Arua: The territorial police in Ayivu West Division, Arua City, have arrested a suspect, Lematia Kizito, a resident of Okariba, after a viral video showed him brutally assaulting his former girlfriend, Edomasia Sharon.
In a chilling 4-minute-and-31-second nighttime video, the shirtless Lematia—wearing only white shorts—is seen viciously whipping, slapping, and threatening to choke Sharon, who is dressed in a red skirt and purple blouse.
At one point, Sharon, visibly weakened and battered, struggles to defend herself, pleading for a moment to catch her breath. The gut-wrenching footage has sparked a firestorm of outrage across social media platforms.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the suspect’s arrest in a statement released on April 26, noting that the incident occurred on the night of April 22, 2025.
“It is alleged that Lematia Kizito confronted Edomasia Sharon whom he had previously been in a relationship with after finding her in the company of another individual. An altercation ensued, leading to the victim sustaining injuries,” the statement reads in part.
Asea further noted that following Sharon’s report of the assault, police apprehended Lematia, who is currently in custody as preparations for his court appearance are underway.
Authorities are urging members of the public who may have additional information related to the incident to come forward.
Despite a reported 4% drop in domestic violence cases in 2024 totaling 14,073 incidents the problem remains widespread. According to UN Women Africa, 45% of Ugandan women experience physical violence, while 55% suffer economic or emotional abuse.
