Kapelebyong extends yellow fever vaccination deadline

Kapelebyong: The authorities of Kapelebyong District have extended the deadline for mass vaccination of its population against yellow fever.
The mass vaccination of people against yellow fever was launched on April 2, 2024. The exercise’s deadline was set for April 8, 2024, but it has been extended by two days.
This was issued during the second stakeholder coordination meeting at the district on Monday.
Dr. Eudu James, the Ag. District Health Officer, said that the extension of the exercise is to give more people an opportunity to get vaccinated.
The report from the district indicated that Kapelebyong had cumulatively vaccinated 67,527 (65%) of its population, against the target of 103,944.
“We have been vaccinating people at the usual vaccination points. Leaners were vaccinated in their schools,” Eudu said. He added that the additional time will be mop-up days across the district.
He blamed the low turnout of people against the exercise on a poor public attitude drawn from the false negative myth about the vaccine.
“This is a well-scientifically proven vaccine without any negative effect on human life. We should embrace the vaccination exercise, and I call on the communities to get vaccinated. These vaccines are very expensive to acquire; if the government gives us a chance to get vaccinated, let’s utilize them,” Dr. Eudu told stakeholders.

Emmy Ojirot, the deputy RDC, warned people against spreading false-negative effects of the vaccine.
“Give us information about the person trying to sabotage the exercise. We shall handle them. Those abusing social media will face it once we crack on them,” he said.
