Kagadi man survives mob after stealing shs90,000

The suspect later confessed to the theft during an interview, pleading with the public for forgiveness.

Kagadi: A 31-year-old man, identified as Ronald Kamanyire, narrowly escaped death after he was caught stealing Shs90,000 from Cure Medical Clinic in Nankurabye, Kagadi Town Council.

Kamanyire, a shoe vendor and resident of Bwikara Sub-county, was caught red-handed on Thursday while attempting to steal from the clinic.

As he tried to flee, members of the public raised an alarm and chased him down. He was beaten with sticks and stones, sustaining severe injuries, and was stripped naked in the attack.

The suspect later confessed to the theft during an interview, pleading with the public for forgiveness.

He was rescued by concerned residents who intervened and called the police, preventing the angry mob from killing him.

Barora Robert, the councillor for Kiraba Ward, praised the residents for their cooperation with authorities and for ultimately choosing to hand the suspect over to police rather than taking the law into their own hands.

He further urged young people to avoid crime and instead engage in productive ventures to secure a better and longer future.

Kamanyire is currently detained at Kagadi Central Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon on theft charges.
