Kabindi picks nomination forms for Buruli County MP Seat

He said the party is still compiling the final list of individuals who have expressed interest in contesting for MP seats across the district.

Masindi: Stephen Kabindi, the 2021 National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Buruli County, on Thursday picked nomination forms to contest in the upcoming NRM party primaries for the Buruli County Member of Parliament (MP) seat in Masindi District.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Kabindi said he is determined to retain the NRM flag and represent the people of Buruli in the 12th Parliament.

Kabindi, the former Chief News Editor at New Vision’s Kabalega FM Hoima, outlined key priorities he intends to focus on if elected. These include lobbying for the establishment of a Health Centre IV in Buruli, which currently lacks such a facility, improving service delivery through effective parliamentary representation, and advocating for equitable national budget allocations.

“I want to ensure that Buruli benefits from balanced budget appropriation, especially to rehabilitate our dilapidated roads and fight land grabbing in the constituency,” Kabindi said.

In the 2021 general elections, Kabindi lost to independent candidate Ronald Akuguzibwe Aled, who garnered 8,848 votes. Kabindi came third with 7,430 votes. Other contenders included Bintu Jalia Lukumu (Independent), who polled 8,316 votes, and Banage Frederick Bitamale (FDC), who received 362 votes.

As the 2026 general elections approach, a growing number of NRM members are flocking to the party’s Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala to pick nomination forms for various positions, including MP seats, LCV chairpersonships, and municipal or city division positions.

The nomination exercise, which began on June 2, will run until June 15, 2025, at the NRM Electoral Commission Offices on Plot 13, Kyadondo Road in Kampala. Official nominations are scheduled for June 17.

According to Moses Ogwang, the NRM registrar for Masindi District, the party is still compiling the final list of individuals who have expressed interest in contesting for MP seats across the district.
