Hoima registers increase in PLE candidates for 2026

Hoima: Hoima District has registered 3,950 candidates for the 2026 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), reflecting an increase of 254 learners compared to the 3,696 candidates registered in 2025.
According to the district Senior Inspector of Schools, Robert Kyomuhendo, the district has registered 1,838 male and 2,112 female candidates for this year’s national examinations.
The announcement comes as the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) officially closes the 2026 PLE registration exercise. Normal registration ended on June 30, while the late registration window closed on July 31, 2026, after which no additional candidates are accepted.
Kyomuhendo said the district has shifted its focus from registration to preparing candidates for the final examinations through closer collaboration with school administrators.
“We have now embarked on preparing the learners through close working relationships with heads of all primary schools with candidate classes across the district,” Kyomuhendo said.
He added that the partnership with schools will continue until the examination period to improve learners’ performance.
“This collaboration will continue up to the final examinations to ensure a better performance is registered this year,” he said.
Under UNEB guidelines, the normal PLE registration fee was Shs34,000 per candidate, while learners registered under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme had the fee paid by the government. Candidates registered during the late registration period attracted a 100 percent surcharge, raising the fee to Shs68,000 for non-UPE candidates.
School heads completed candidate registration through the UNEB electronic registration portal, while verification of submitted candidate lists is handled through UNEB headquarters and district inspectors of schools.
