MediConnect launches Digital Healthcare Services in Namisindwa

He also called on UCC to intensify public sensitisation and support innovation to ensure that all communities benefit from the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Namisindwa:  MediConnect Health Solutions, a Uganda-focused telemedicine initiative, has launched digital healthcare services in Namisindwa District in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) under the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF).

The initiative, launched as part of UCUSAF’s fourth strategic cycle, aims to improve access to healthcare by connecting patients with healthcare professionals through digital technology.

Its services include online medical consultations, appointment booking, pharmacy services, ambulance access and emergency support.

Speaking at the launch, MediConnect team leader Michael Kayola said the application enables users to locate online pharmacies and access free medical consultations offered on a pro bono basis.

Kayola said the initiative is intended to make healthcare services more accessible to people with smartphones by using technology to connect them with medical professionals.

Immaculate Amanya, the Head of Partnerships at UCC, pledged support for the growth of the initiative.

Amanya, who participated in the innovation awards where MediConnect received a prize, said the project aligns with efforts to expand access to communication and information technology while promoting innovation and value addition.

Bwayo Emma, the Namisindwa District LC5 Chairperson and chief guest at the launch, commended the founders for introducing a technology-based healthcare solution.

However, Bwayo urged the public to use the internet responsibly and productively to create economic opportunities rather than promote conflict and violence.

He also called on UCC to intensify public sensitisation and support innovation to ensure that all communities benefit from the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The launch is expected to raise awareness about the use of digital platforms in accessing healthcare services, particularly for people seeking convenient connections to medical professionals and other health-related services.
