Bukedea: Speaker Anita Annet Among rewarded 152 of the best 2023 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) performers who sat for their exams in Bukedea district on Thursday.

Speaker Among, who also doubles as the Woman Member of Parliament representing Bukedea district, also offered bursaries for the first term to the best performers.

The event that saw the first graders being rewarded took place at Bukedea Comprehensive School and was attended by distinguished guests, primary head teachers, politicians, parents, and the best PLE performers.

Johnathan Ebwalu, the chief guest who represented Speaker Anita, said the speaker has directed him to hand over a mattress and an envelope of one hundred thousand shillings to each child.

He further explained that the speaker offered a one-term full bursary for the one hundred and fifty-two children who will join Bukedea Comprehensive School.

“I am here to represent our speaker, Annet. Among her directives were for all the best PLE performers to get mattresses and an envelope of one hundred thousand, which have come with them,” he said.

Mr. Emmanuel Okwi, the Kocheka sub county chairperson who was the host, applauded the speaker for the wonderful service done.

“I want to say this boldly because since I started serving as a politician, I have never seen a leader like Anita,” he said.

Mr. Sam Engole, the Bukedea town council chairperson, echoed, saying they are set to ensure that the speaker’s seat is secured.

“Bukedea has been lacking leaders who think and focus on development like Anita; we are ready to protect her votes and her seat.”

Ms. Jane Anyango, the Bukedea district Inspector of schools, urged parents to play their vital role in educating children.

“I want to say that these teachers are doing their part; let the parents as well play their role in order to increase the number of first graders,” said Ms. Anyango.
