Eng. Jonard declared NRM Chairperson for Hoima City

She said that she is going to mobilize the women in Hoima city for development.

Hoima: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has successfully conducted its city-level party structure elections in Hoima City, with the exercise concluding peacefully and with high cooperation among participants.

The elections, held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Kitara Secondary School, saw Eng. Jonard Asiimwe declared NRM City Chairperson unopposed, alongside several other uncontested candidates.

Friday Beatrice won the vice chairperson position, Joseph Senkiga won the general secretary position, Aramathan Mugisa won the finance secretary position all unopposed.

Muhammad Kihimba had to beat Godfrey Byaruhanga with 85 votes to 2 to be declared the publicity secretary.

Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, the CEO of Jonard Conglomerate, who is now the elected NRM chairperson Hoima city appreciated the NRM members at the city for supporting him to pass unopposed.

Eng. Jonard vowed to work with everyone to build a stronger party in the city saying he will work together with the party members without dividing themselves.

The women’s league posts had a tight competition with all candidates vying for various positions drawing 5 votes. It consisted of 10 voters, with two camps of 5 people who remained intact during voting for all positions.

The election officers led by Sarah Kobusinge the NRM city registrar and with consent of all candidates decided to determine the winners by use of lucky numbers, 1 & 2 written on sheets where the lucky candidates who picked sheet with number 1 were declared winners.

Hellen Azikya defeated Betty Miramago for the chairperson position, Rosemary Ayampaire won Asha Karamagi for the vice chairperson position, Alice Tugume won Mildred Friday for the general secretary position, Hanifah Pauline Kabayaga won Rosemary Birungi for the publicity secretary while Mildred Ngozi won Annet Mbabazi for the finance secretary position.

Hellen Azikya said that she is going to mobilize the women in Hoima city for development. Sylivia Kaahwa won the position of chairperson for the youth’s league with 7 votes, defeating Julius Muwanguzi, 03 votes and Jim Atuhura 01 vote.

Other leagues including the elderly, Veterans, PWDs and the workers didn’t have elections since they had mutual understandings and candidates won unopposed on all positions.

Dr. Lawrence Bategeka the former MP Hoima Municipality said he will advocate for all elders and those above the age of 80 so that they can benefit from sage money.

Dr. Bategeka promised to put in much effort to make sure elders form SACCOs to better their lives as they age gracefully.

Sarah Kobusinge the Hoima city NRM registrar expressed that the elections have been peaceful apart from the position of women league were the candidates tied with the same number of votes.

Kobusinge said to break the impasse, her and the team employed an alternative method, asking the contestants to pick labeled papers to determine the winner and the candidate who picked paper number 1 who was Hellen Azikiya emerged victorious and was elected chairperson of the women’s league.

She advised those who have lost not to fight each other, use hate speech or hate each other but rather work together.

Meanwhile, Mpoza Karungi Erukana has been elected as the new NRM District Chairman for Kagadi after securing a landslide victory in the district elections held today at Kagadi Secondary School in Kagadi Town Council.

Karungi garnered 1,026 votes, decisively beating the incumbent, Omukwenda Mulumba Ali, who managed to collect only 172 votes.

The election was conducted under tight security and presided over by the district NRM registrar, Mikisa John Chrysostom.

Following the announcement, Karungi expressed his gratitude to the voters for their overwhelming support.

He promised to dedicate himself to strengthening the NRM party in Kagadi and to work tirelessly to unify the district under the party’s vision.

Other NRM mainstream elected members include Amara Peter, who was elected Vice Chairperson after defeating three other contenders; Patrick Zikashagizha, who was elected Secretary Finance unopposed; and Stephen Twesige Rulekere, who won the General Secretary position with 421 votes, beating Emanuel Tranzomwe who received 81 votes.

However, Mikisa John Chrysostom announced that elections for the Secretary Publicity and Entrepreneur positions will be held on another day due to some misunderstandings during the current exercise.

Mikisa also announced other elected league chairpersons: Kirungi Yoweri for Elders and Namanya Richard for Workers League, both elected unopposed.

In the Women’s League, Kaben Stella Bisoborwa won with 116 votes, narrowly defeating Adreen Tibaleka who got 113 votes.

For the Youth League, Obed Ambikiize was elected with 92 votes, beating Pascal Natamba who secured 80 votes.

Speaking after the elections, Patrick Zikashagizha pledged to foster teamwork among the elected officials.

Meanwhile, the elected leaders commended the voters for entrusting them with their votes and promised to uphold the party’s guidelines to build a strong and united NRM.
