Casual labourer arrested for allegedly killing employer
Police say inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
Kiboga: Police in Kiboga District have arrested a casual labourer over the alleged murder of his employer following a dispute over unpaid wages.
The suspect, identified only as Fabulisi, a Burundian national, is being held at Bukomero Police Station in connection with the death of Akiram Golooba, 22.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday in Kyomya Sub-county, where Golooba was preparing logs for charcoal burning alongside his wife, Gloria Naggawa.
According to the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, the suspect allegedly demanded payment before threatening the victim. A heated argument reportedly ensued, during which Fabulisi is alleged to have attacked Golooba with a panga, inflicting fatal injuries to the neck.
“The suspect allegedly demanded payment before threatening the victim. During the ensuing argument, he reportedly attacked him with a panga, causing fatal injuries to the neck,” Kigozi said.
Police say Golooba died at the scene, while the suspect was arrested shortly afterwards. Detectives recovered a panga believed to have been used in the attack.
The case has been registered at Bukomero Police Station under CRB 142/2026, and investigations are ongoing.
Kigozi urged members of the public to exercise caution when hiring casual labourers whose identities and backgrounds are not well known.
“Employers should treat workers fairly, communicate clearly about wages, and ensure timely payment to prevent disputes that could escalate into violence,” Kigozi advised.
