Bunyoro government schools to benefit from World Bank-Funded expansion program
The program will also support the construction of new seed schools.
Hoima: Several government secondary schools in the Bunyoro region are set to benefit from a World Bank-funded program aimed at improving and expanding school infrastructure.
The schools earmarked under the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Programme (USEEP) include Sir Tito Winyi Secondary School and Buseruka Secondary School in Hoima District, Buhanika Seed Secondary School in Hoima City, as well as Our Lady of Fatuma College and Kiziranfumbi Secondary School in Kikuube District among others.
Under the project scope, beneficiary schools will receive a range of facilities, including new classrooms, administration blocks, science and computer laboratories, stance latrines, staff quarters, playgrounds, and incinerators. The program will also support the construction of new seed schools.
Available information indicates that headteachers and community-led supervisory and procurement committee members have already undergone training ahead of the project implementation.
Harriet Kihumuro, the Acting District Education Officer for Hoima, confirmed the development, noting that the initiative is community-led, with the district providing monitoring support to ensure standards are maintained.
‘’The initiative is community-led with the district providing monitoring support to ensure standards are maintained and the committees have been already formed to monitor the projects,’’ she added.
Allan Tusiime, the headteacher of Sir Tito Winyi Secondary School, says preparations are already underway. He notes that the school has received learning materials including textbooks, balls, laptops, and projectors, and is now entering the construction phase of the project.
Several beneficiary schools have already issued invitations for bids as the procurement process for contractors gets underway.
