Buliisa: The LC1 Chairman for Waisoke Village and other members are in hot soup after being cited for selling communal land and embezzling over 38 million shillings meant for the community from Total Energies as compensation for the construction of a pipeline in the area.

The area chairperson and his colleagues were squeezed on Wednesday during a meeting convened by the deputy resident district commissioner, Buliisa, held at Waisoke Village, Bugoigo Parish, Butiaba Sub County.

The angry residents demanded explanations and accountability from the LC1 Chairperson, Mr. Ronald Aweko Nimungu, about the 38,603,656 shillings and how the compensation money went missing.

The residents also accused the LC1 Chairperson of the continuous sale of communal land without their knowledge.

Annet Lubeni Kahwa, the female councilor representing Butiaba T/C and Sub County, accused the LC1 Chairperson of being selfish and being involved in land wrangles.

She stressed that LC1 chairpersons are not supposed to sell land without community members’ awareness.

Ronald AwekoNimungu, the embattled LC1 Chairperson for Waisoke Village, denied the accusation, claiming that last year they chaired a meeting with locals for the said money, saying part of the money was used to buy community chairs and other items.

He also denied selling the community land.

The Butiaba Sub County LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Abudalah Opiyo, asked for calmness from locals, saying the chairperson needs to provide evidence so that the matter is solved.

However, the deputy RDC Buliisa, Mr. Muhuta Akintoire, asked the chairperson to provide evidence and asked him to record statements with community members on the issue.

‘’The chairman and his colleagues should go to police and record statements, public funds are supposed to be accounted for.’’
