Security foil robbery at Uganda Baati factory

During the altercation, one of the intruders, armed with a panga, attempted to attack the guard, causing minor damage to the guard’s firearm.

Tororo: The Territorial Police in Tororo District is investigating an attempted robbery that took place around midnight on November 4, 2024, at the Uganda Baati Factory/Store in Bison A Cell, Western Division.

Bukedi South region police spokesperson, Johnson Moses Mugwe, reported that the incident was filed by Martin Olugu, Security Supervisor at the Uganda Baati branch in Tororo’s Agururu A2 Cell.

The suspect, identified as Bruno Obwona, a 21-year-old peasant farmer from Agururu A2 Cell, was part of a group of four men who allegedly scaled the factory’s perimeter wall with the intent to steal.

A security guard noticed Obwona carrying iron sheets, prompting the guard to fire a warning shot, followed by a second shot that injured Obwona in the stomach, causing him to collapse. The shots scared off the other suspects, who quickly fled.

During the altercation, one of the intruders, armed with a panga, attempted to attack the guard, causing minor damage to the guard’s firearm.

Obwona, later found injured and lying in a pool of blood, was transported to Tororo General Hospital for treatment. He admitted his involvement in the robbery attempt, revealing that four men participated in the heist.

Police have recovered four pieces of iron sheets as evidence as investigations continue.
