Kikuube launches measles-rubella mass vaccination campaign

“The campaign is targeting all children aged nine months to five years and is intended to increase population immunity and interrupt the transmission of measles and rubella.”

Kikuube: Kikuube District has launched a mass measles-rubella vaccination campaign targeting children aged between nine months and five years.

The campaign was launched by the Resident District Commissioner, Godwin Angalia, at Kikuube Health Centre IV.

Health officials say vaccination posts have been established at health facilities, schools, markets and places of worship, while mobile teams are conducting door-to-door vaccination to reach children who may not access the fixed vaccination points.

The RDC has tasked Village Health Teams, teachers and religious leaders with mobilising communities to ensure that all eligible children are vaccinated.

Godwin Angalia said parents and caregivers should take advantage of the exercise and present their children for vaccination.

“The campaign is targeting all children aged nine months to five years and is intended to increase population immunity and interrupt the transmission of measles and rubella.”

Parents have also been advised to carry their children’s immunisation cards and continue with routine immunisation after the mass campaign.

The District Health Officer said the measles-rubella vaccine is safe, free of charge and life-saving.

“The vaccine is safe, free and life-saving. Parents and caretakers should bring all eligible children for vaccination.”

The campaign is part of the national measles-rubella vaccination exercise being implemented across Uganda.
