Relatives demand justice for the murdered Masindi DHO

Masindi: The relatives of the murdered Acting Masindi District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Jino Abiriga, are demanding justice.

Dr. Abiriga was discovered dead on Sunday morning, about 50 meters from his home in Kijura North Cell, Central Division, Masindi Municipality.

Hellen Alioru, the deceased’s daughter, asked security to thoroughly investigate the case and bring the suspect or suspects to face the law.

‘’Security should thoroughly investigate the person or people who brutally murdered my father; though he is no more, we are desperate for justice,’’ she demanded, stressing that her father never deserved to die in such a brutal manner.

Alioru decried the manner in which her father was killed, stressing that his dad was a caring man who educated, loved, and provided all the necessities they needed.

”In Masindi here, Abiriga has been a darling to everyone; he has treated everyone the same, whether he knows you or not. He has been such a good dad; he loved us the way we loved him, and I will never get a person who loves and cares for me like my dad,’’ she decried, noting that the deceased father was the breadwinner in the family.

Henry Atamati, the deceased’s brother, also echoed the need for security to investigate this case and ensure that their brother gets the justice he deserves.

‘’He brought us from Maracha to Masindi, and this had become our home. It’s unfortunate the manner in which our brother was murdered. We are requesting security to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure the suspect or suspects are arrested and face the law,’’ he asked.

He commended the people of Masindi for living in peace and harmony with their late brother and the family and assured them of security when they travel to Maracha district for burial.

‘’I want to assure the people of Masindi and Bunyoro that we don’t have any problem with them; they lived in peace and harmony with us, and I want to assure you that nothing will happen when we travel to Maracha to lay our brother to rest,’’ he assured them.

Jolly Edomasia, the deceased’s stepdaughter, also asked security to investigate the case and ensure her uncle gets the justice he deserves.

She eulogized his uncle as someone who loved them like his children. Edomasia said that Abiriga brought her up in childhood, when she lost all her parents at a tender age.

‘’I lost my parents at the age of eight, and Abiriga brought me up, paid my tuition, showed love; he was like my dad because he was everything to me,’’ she said.

Joel Drapari, the deceased’s stepson, asked the government to implement the projects of his deceased uncle, which include educating his relatives and the needy children.

‘’My late uncle was paying tuition for over 30 children, including our relatives and the needy children. I’m appealing to the government to take up the project because we are stranded as to whether they will complete their studies,’’ he asked.

According to the burial arrangements, Abiriga will be buried on Thursday this week at his ancestral home in Tumvia village, Anyivu Parish, Tara Sub County, Maracha district, in the West Nile subregion.
