Masindi: A 25-year-old motorcyclist has died instantly in a single motorcycle road crash at Mile 2, Kihande, in front of Kabalega College along Masindi–Hoima Road.
The deceased has been identified as Kato Rodgers, a resident of Kimengo Sub-county in Masindi District.
Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, says the accident occurred at around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday.
Mugisa says Kato was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 424MP, from Hoima towards Masindi at a suspected high speed.
He says the rider reportedly lost control after hitting a road hump and fell on the left-hand side of the road, where he died instantly.
Mugisa says the deceased’s body was conveyed to Masindi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the motorcycle was taken to Masindi Central Police Station for inspection by an Inspector of Vehicles.
He says police have commenced investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash, registered under TAR 98/2026.
Mugisa has urged motorists to avoid overspeeding, obey road signs and wear protective gear, particularly helmets, to reduce the risk of serious injuries in road crashes.
He has also cautioned riders and drivers against operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol and overloading, while reminding them to obtain the required riding and driving permits.
By press time, Kato’s body was still at Masindi Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
