Masindi launches mass measles-rubella vaccination exercise
“The vaccine is safe and approved by the World Health Organization. Every child who is vaccinated will be given a vaccination card.”

Masindi: Masindi District has launched a mass measles-rubella vaccination exercise targeting 59,000 children aged between nine months and five years.
The exercise, launched at the Masindi District Health Offices, will run until October 5, 2026, with vaccination taking place at schools, health centres and communities.
Brian Mugisha, the Assistant District Health Officer in charge of Child and Maternal Health, says vaccination started at 8 a.m. at both government and private health facilities.
He says Village Health Teams and local leaders will mobilise parents to take their children for vaccination at designated posts, with teams also moving into villages over the weekend and on Monday.
“We are appealing to all parents and guardians to present children below five years for vaccination, including those who have previously received a measles-rubella dose.”
Mugisha says the vaccine is safe and approved by the World Health Organization, and all vaccinated children will be issued vaccination cards.
“The vaccine is safe and approved by the World Health Organization. Every child who is vaccinated will be given a vaccination card.”
He says the district has been performing poorly in measles-rubella vaccination, with fewer than 45,000 children vaccinated against the target of 59,000.
“We are targeting 59,000 children, but in the previous exercises we have been vaccinating fewer than 45,000. We therefore need parents and communities to support this campaign.”
Mugisha says vaccination is key to preventing measles-rubella outbreaks and protecting children from complications associated with the diseases, including pneumonia and other health problems.
