Young leaders urged to embrace transparency and prioritize service

Namisindwa: Young leaders across Uganda have been urged to embrace transparency, accountability and integrity while prioritising service to the people as a way of creating meaningful and lasting impact in their communities.

The call was made by Namisindwa LCV Chairperson Emma Bwayo, who was a panelist at the Symposium for Elected Leaders held at Makerere University under the theme “Leadership Beyond the Ballot.”

Organised by the Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre (JNLC), the symposium brought together more than 200 elected and other leaders from across the country to discuss leadership, governance and public service beyond electoral politics.

Bwayo, who is also an alumnus of JNLC, said young leaders should measure their success by the impact they create in the lives of the people they serve.

“The greatest value young leaders can offer their communities is through transparency, accountability, focus and a commitment to serving the people,” Bwayo said.

He said he had started promoting the values of accountable and people-centred leadership in Namisindwa District and pledged to continue championing them.

Bwayo was also recognised on the JNLC Wall of Fame alongside other prominent young leaders for their contributions to leadership and public service.

Gulu City Mayor Alionzi Lawrence said young leaders have a responsibility to respond to the aspirations and challenges of their generation.

He said young people have an opportunity to make history through responsible leadership and urged them to take advantage of opportunities to acquire knowledge, develop their leadership skills and build meaningful networks.
