He called upon the District Production and Marketing Officer to ensure that farmers receive the necessary support for the project to achieve its intended objectives.

Kiryandongo: Kiryandongo District Local Government has received a brand-new Toyota Hilux Double Cabin pickup under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP), a move expected to strengthen agricultural extension services and enhance the implementation of climate-smart farming initiatives across the district.

The Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project aims to increase climate resilience and agricultural productivity among farmers. The project is funded by the World Bank through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the District Production and Marketing Officer, Byenkya Issa Hassan, expressed gratitude to the Government of Uganda for supporting the district with the new vehicle. He said the pickup will greatly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of implementing UCSATP activities and other government agricultural programmes.

“This vehicle will facilitate timely field operations and enable extension workers to effectively reach farmers across the district. It will enhance service delivery and ensure the successful implementation of the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project,” Byenkya said.

The Chief Administrative Officer, Anselm Kyaligonza, also welcomed the acquisition, thanking the President of Uganda for creating an enabling environment that continues to attract development projects funded by partners such as the World Bank.

Kyaligonza urged the District Production and Marketing Officer to ensure that the vehicle is used strictly in accordance with the guidelines stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) governing the project.

He expressed optimism that the vehicle would improve the mobility of agricultural extension workers, enabling them to reach more farmers with technical support aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, promoting climate-smart farming practices, and improving market access for agricultural produce in Kiryandongo District.

The Resident District Commissioner, Dan Muganga, called upon the District Production and Marketing Officer to ensure that farmers receive the necessary support for the project to achieve its intended objectives.

Muganga further emphasized the importance of proper management of the vehicle, urging that it be serviced and maintained regularly to guarantee its longevity and reliability. He also appealed to the designated driver to observe all traffic rules and regulations to safeguard the vehicle and its occupants.

The newly acquired vehicle is expected to play a vital role in strengthening field supervision, monitoring project activities, and enhancing the delivery of extension services, ultimately contributing to improved agricultural productivity and resilience to climate change among farmers in Kiryandongo District.
