Health Ministry donates Ambulance, Mosquito nets to Masindi

The government also donated a Class A ambulance to Bujenje County to strengthen referral services in the district.

Masindi: The Ministry of Health has donated mosquito nets to Masindi District as part of efforts to fight malaria in the country.

More than 4,000 bales, each containing 50 insecticide-treated mosquito nets, were delivered to the district yesterday.

Dr. Nicholas Kwikiriza Magambo, the District Health Officer (DHO), told journalists that the nets are being distributed to parishes across the district, where Village Health Teams (VHTs) will pick them for distribution to households.

“We are now delivering these mosquito nets to the parishes from where they would be picked by the Village Health Team (VHT) for distribution to the homes in the district and every two people are supposed to receive a net,” Dr. Kwikiriza said.

Dr. Kwikiriza explained that the nets are being distributed in phases to reduce the malaria burden, despite the district still registering high malaria cases. He urged residents to use the nets properly to effectively fight the disease.

“Malaria is one of the leading causes of death in the country, and government through the Ministry of Health decided to distribute these nets to reduce the burden of malaria in the country,” he noted.

In a related development, Dr. Kwikiriza revealed that the district has also received a brand-new ambulance from the Ministry of Health to improve healthcare service delivery.

He said the Class B ambulance, delivered to the district on Tuesday, will strengthen emergency services since each county in the district now has an ambulance.

Masindi District Chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga commended the government for its continued commitment to improving public health through various interventions and called for proper use of the donated items.

The government also donated a Class A ambulance to Bujenje County to strengthen referral services in the district.
