Atugonza dismisses allegations of voter bribery

“I am prepared to defend my win in any court of law,” he said.

Buliisa: The Buliisa District NRM Chairperson and incumbent Member of Parliament for Buliisa Constituency, Hon. Allan Atugonza, has dismissed allegations of voter bribery and vote manipulation in the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections.

Hon. Atugonza, who retained his parliamentary seat after securing 15,478 votes, refuted claims that his victory was influenced by bribery or manipulation of results, particularly from polling stations gazetted within military installations.

Speaking in an interview with this publication on Tuesday, Atugonza said he is ready to face his competitors in court, insisting that he has sufficient evidence to justify his victory.

“I am prepared to defend my win in any court of law,” he said.

The incumbent MP also thanked the people of Buliisa Constituency for the overwhelming support that enabled him to emerge victorious.

He pledged to improve service delivery in the constituency, prioritizing key sectors such as health, education, fishing, water, agriculture, and wealth creation, among others, for the development of Buliisa District.

His remarks come amid growing discontent from opposition candidates Mr. Robert Mugume, also known as Soferi, and Hon. Harriet Kusemererwa, alias Kachabuke, who have vowed to challenge the election results in courts of law.

During a joint press briefing held at Hoima Kolping Gardens, the duo alleged that the elections were not free and fair. They claimed that some of their polling agents were intimidated and accused their opponents of engaging in voter bribery.

They also raised concerns over the alleged manipulation of votes, particularly from polling stations located within military installations.

According to official results announced by the Buliisa District Returning Officer, Mr. Robert Kunihira, Hon. Harriet Kusemererwa lost to the incumbent Norah Bigirwa Nyendwoha by a margin of 5,317 votes, while Hon. Allan Atugonza defeated Robert Mugume by 3,639 votes.

The two candidates called upon the people of Buliisa District to remain vigilant as the country prepares to elect LC5 chairpersons and district councillors on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
