Man killed in bar fight over cigarette in Kagadi

The body was later released to the family for burial.

Kagadi: A 30-year-old man has been beaten to death by unidentified attackers in Kyaterekera Sub-county, Kagadi District.

The deceased has been identified as Saturday Justus, a resident of Kiyenzi Village in Kyaterekera Sub-county.

According to the Kiyenzi Village Chairperson, Ronald Nsazumuhire, the incident occurred on Tuesday night following a bar fight reportedly triggered by a disagreement over an Oris cigarette.

Nsazumuhire said that after the quarrel, a group of people believed to be sugarcane cutters ambushed and assaulted Saturday as he was walking home, beating him to death.

The group allegedly works for Kabalesi Benon, a resident of Mabale Village in Nyakarongo Sub-county.

The Kyaterekera Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Talemwa Fred, suggested that the conflict erupted when Saturday allegedly refused to share an Oris cigarette with the group members, who were reportedly drunk at the time.

Police officers from Kagadi Central Police Station visited the scene and transported the body to Kagadi General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The body was later released to the family for burial.

The owner of the bar where the altercation began has been arrested to assist police with investigations. However, police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, Hope Nyamugisha, the mother of the deceased, has appealed to the government to help trace and arrest the suspects, and to support the family with burial expenses.
