Mob kills suspected goat thief in Lamwo
Although the goats were returned to their owners, Akena was later found dead, with his body dumped in nearby bushland.
Lamwo: A 39-year-old man, Akena Vincent, was killed by a mob in Orii Village, Paloga Subcounty, Lamwo District, on Sunday, June 29, 2025, after allegedly stealing three goats.
The incident was reported by Oyoo Young Innocent, the Defense Secretary of Orii Village.
According to the Aswa East Regional Police, Akena was suspected of stealing goats belonging to Atube Robert and another unidentified individual. He reportedly transported the animals to Lararaka Village in Mucwini East Subcounty, Kitgum District.
Local leaders in Lararaka, including LC1 chairman Ojok Oyite, intercepted and allegedly tortured the suspect. They then contacted Orii Village’s LC1 chairman, Kidega Benson, who, along with a boda boda rider named Oryem Can, brought Akena back to Orii.
Although the goats were returned to their owners, Akena was later found dead, with his body dumped in nearby bushland.
Lamwo District police spokesperson Oloya confirmed that a case of murder by mob action has been registered at Paloga Police Station. The crime scene was examined by the Lamwo CPS forensic team, and Akena’s body was taken to Padibe HCIV for postmortem.
The suspects are currently on the run. Police are calling on the public to provide information to aid in their arrest.
