Murdered Seeta High School Teacher Laid to Rest in Kitgum
Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder, and police investigations are ongoing.

Kitgum: Ivan Oloya, a former Seeta High School teacher, was laid to rest on Friday, March 28, 2025, in his ancestral home in Pamolo Olet Village, Labongo Layamo Subcounty, Kitgum District.
The 31-year-old teacher’s funeral was marked by emotional tributes, with Mr. Okwera Alfred, a family representative, describing Ivan as a disciplined and promising young man.
He urged the community to support Ivan’s young family, emphasizing that Ivan came from a humble and struggling background.
Monsignor Fr. Komakech Christopher, the Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish, officiated the funeral service. During his sermon, he condemned the senseless killing of innocent people and expressed concern about the rising violence in the Acholi subregion.
Fr. Komakech offered words of comfort, urging Ivan’s family to draw strength from their faith and assuring them that Ivan’s spirit remains alive through God’s power.
He also recognized the family’s role in supporting Ivan’s academic journey and called for greater respect for human rights and the nurturing of a compassionate spirit across the country.
Ivan Oloya, born on December 25, 1995, in Kitgum District, had a remarkable educational journey. He attended Ayoma Primary School and Childcare International Primary School, where he sat for his Primary Leaving Examination (PLE). Ivan then continued his studies at Kitgum Alliance College, Monsignor Antonio Vignato School, and Kitgum Comprehensive College.
His academic path culminated in a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and History (Arts Education) from Gulu University. Over the years, Ivan taught at several schools, including Hoima Seminary School, St. Peter’s Bombo Kalule, and Seeta High Mbalala Campus.
Ivan’s life was tragically cut short on the night of Friday, March 21, 2025, when he was murdered while returning home from an evening lesson in Mukono.
Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder, and police investigations are ongoing.
The community mourns the loss of Ivan, who was seen as a dedicated teacher and a promising young man. His death serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing violence in the region, and many are hopeful that justice will be served as investigations continue.
