Two killed in Kakumiro road accident

He attributed the accident to reckless driving and the poor mechanical condition of the lorry.

Kakumiro: Police in Kakumiro District are searching for the driver of a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry, registration number UAX 353H, who is accused of knocking down and killing two people in a fatal road accident.

According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, the accident occurred on Sunday night at around 9 PM along the Kijanga-Kakindo road in Bigaju Village, Kakumiro District.

The Fuso lorry, registration number UAX 353H, reportedly collided with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFC 395T, killing two people on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Emmanuel Rwengamba, 46 , a passenger on the motorcycle and Peter Tukahirwa, 42, the motorcycle rider.

Hakiza attributed the accident to reckless driving and the poor mechanical condition of the lorry.

Both the lorry and the motorcycle have been towed to Kakumiro Central Police Station (CPS) as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been transported to Kakumiro Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police have urged motorists to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition to prevent similar tragedies.
