Man strangles 2-month-old baby to death in Arua
The infant's head was pointing downwards with the legs up, and there were bruises around her neck," Angucia explained.
Arua: Territorial Police in Ayivu East Division, Arua City, have arrested the biological parents of a two-month-old baby girl in connection with her murder.
The deceased, identified as Naweza Macline, was found dead at Rubu Nyai Cell in the former Aroi Sub-county, Ayivu East Division.
The suspects, Dradeyo Samuel and Draduyo Comfort, both residents of the same area and parents of the deceased infant, were taken into custody as investigations commenced.
According to the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, preliminary findings indicate that the child’s mother had left the baby sleeping on a mattress in the bedroom with the father before going to the garden to fetch vegetables for lunch.
“Upon returning after about one hour, she found neither the baby nor the father in the house,” Angucia said. The mother reportedly raised an alarm, attracting neighbours who joined in the search for the missing infant.
“The baby was later discovered inside a green bucket normally used for storing drinking water in the house. The infant’s head was pointing downwards with the legs up, and there were bruises around her neck,” Angucia explained.
Police officers visited and documented the scene before recovering the body and transporting it to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. “Relevant statements were recorded to aid investigations,” Angucia added.
Police registered a murder case under Ayivu East Division CRB 108/26 and arrested both parents to assist with investigations. However, the suspects were later released on police bond following a request from members of the community.
“They are required to first bury their baby and report back to police on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, for further investigations,” Angucia noted. Police have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing any information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
