UPU launches alumni association to strengthen institutional growth

Fort Portal: Uganda Pentecostal University has officially launched its Alumni Association in a vibrant event held on Saturday at its Mucwa Main Campus in Fort Portal.

The milestone gathering attracted a diverse audience comprising alumni, university staff, continuing students, and key stakeholders, all united under the theme “Reconnecting the Past, Strengthening the Future.” The launch marked a significant step toward fostering stronger ties between the university and its graduates while positioning alumni as key contributors to the institution’s long-term development.

The day’s activities featured sports competitions and a guided site visit to the university’s ongoing construction project in Kudukuru, Kasusu Ward, North Division, Fort Portal City. The visit highlighted the university’s ambition to secure a permanent home—an effort leaders say requires collective support, particularly from alumni. Participants were given a firsthand look at the progress and future plans for the facility, reinforcing the importance of sustained investment and partnership.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Pelucy Ntambirweki, emphasized the critical role alumni play in shaping the university’s future.

“Always speak UPU wherever you go. Your support is crucial for the university’s future,” she said.

She described the theme as timely and relevant, noting that alumni are living proof of the university’s impact and remain vital partners in its continued growth. She also urged graduates to actively support the ongoing construction project to help the university secure a permanent campus, describing it as a defining milestone.

During the event, Sam Magezi was installed as the Chairman of the newly formed UPU Alumni Association. Speaking as the chief guest, he pledged to actively support the association and contribute to the advancement of the university. His leadership is expected to provide strategic direction and mobilize alumni toward meaningful participation in university programs.

Meanwhile, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Baguma Richard Kakakamba, called upon alumni to remain actively involved in university initiatives. He noted that their continued engagement strengthens institutional networks and enhances the university’s image both locally and internationally.

The launch of the Alumni Association signals a new chapter for Uganda Pentecostal University as it seeks to harness the collective strength of its graduates to drive development, improve visibility, and secure a sustainable future.

The event also featured lively sports and social activities that fostered interaction and camaraderie among participants. A thrilling football match between alumni and continuing students ended in a 2–2 draw, with alumni clinching victory after a 5–4 penalty shootout win. In the ladies’ netball category, alumni also emerged champions.

The celebratory atmosphere was further enhanced by activities such as bull roasting and a car wash organized by the Guild Cabinet, offering entertainment and opportunities for engagement.
