Two arrested over murder of retired teacher

He was waylaid by his son with a burnt brick, and he died instantly.

Kikuube: Police in Kikuube district are holding two suspects for allegedly murdering Benjamin Henry Kaija, 64, a retired teacher and a resident of Rwomubazi LC1 Buhimba East Ward in Buhimba town council.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, told this publication on Monday that over the weekend, Hillary Barungi, a juvenile, was sent to collect Nakati from a nearby garden, and he discovered his grandfather’s lifeless body in the garden.

Hakiza said the boy rushed to call the grandmother (wife) about the incident.

The regional police mouthpiece added that when police were informed about the murder, they introduced a canine dog that led them to Sadic Mwesigye, 46, and James Kaahwa, 60, all residents of the same place.

He says the two suspects are currently detained at Kikuube Police to aid investigations.

In related development, police in Kagadi district are hunting for Julius Habumuremyi, a 25-year-old resident of Nyatosi parish, Kyaterekera town council, for allegedly killing his father, Matayo Kaaza, a 45-year-old resident of Mabale A village in Kisugo parish, Nyakarongo Sub County.

Hakiza explains that the duo fought at the Kyomukama trading center over the weekend and were separated by the people nearby.

He said the deceased had to go back home, but on his way, he was waylaid by his son with a burnt brick, and he died instantly.

The police officer disclosed that they had discovered that the two had been having land issues for some time. Meanwhile, Habumuremyi is still at large, and efforts to arrest him are ongoing.
