Hoima: Three people have been confirmed dead and one injured following a tragic accident on Thursday morning in Kiryateete, along the Hoima–Fort Portal Road.
The accident involved a white Fuso fighter lorry with registration number UBN 563R, a tricycle registration number UFX 656F, and two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles registration number UEZ 041C and UGD 490W.
Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza identified the deceased as Irumba, the tricycle rider, Julius Tibenda, and three-and-a-half-year-old Darius Ethan Baguma.
The injured, 30-year-old Fiona Kasemire, was a passenger on one of the motorcycles and is currently receiving treatment at EDPA Hospital.
“The lifeless bodies have been conveyed to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem, while the vehicles are parked at Hoima Central Police Station pending inspection,” Hakiza stated.
He added that the driver of the Fuso lorry fled the scene and remains on the run. “Efforts to trace the suspect are ongoing,” he confirmed.
Eyewitness Geofrey Kyanku reported that the Fuso lorry was attempting to avoid a parked truck near JPK Hardware when the collision occurred.
The accident has reignited public anger over poor traffic regulation in the area, with residents blaming local authorities for failing to address the dangers posed by roadside parking.
Hoima City Deputy Mayor, Sylvia Nalumaga, acknowledged the concerns. “The city authorities are going to intensify efforts to penalize those who park and offload along the roadsides,” she said.
