Three arrested over brutal murder of 52-year-old in Terego
This incident comes amid rising national concern over violent crimes.
Terego: Police in Terego District have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Peter Amandi, a 52-year-old resident of Liria Village, Abindi Parish.
The suspects, Wadribo Joel, 24, Ajudribo Michael, 17, and Abasiku Jerimaya,19, all residents of Anikuru Village are being detained at Terego Central Police Station and are facing charges of murder by assault under Case Ref: TGO/CRB: 129/25.
According to SP Collins Asea, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the incident traces back to April 19, 2025, when Amandi allegedly set fire to a grass-thatched house belonging to a man identified as Orodriyo. The matter was first reported by Ndema Tepolo, 61.
In apparent retaliation, relatives of Orodriyo reportedly confronted and violently assaulted Amandi.
He was later found on April 21 in critical condition in a valley in Liria Village and was rushed to Arua Regional Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 27.
A postmortem examination has been conducted, and investigations are ongoing, according to police.
This incident comes amid rising national concern over violent crimes.
The 2024 Uganda Police Annual Crime Report revealed a 1.9% increase in murder cases, with 4,329 cases reported, up from 4,248 in 2023. Of these, 1,274 reached court, 333 were dismissed, and 2,722 remain under investigation.
Terego Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining community safety as investigations continue.
