Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and identify the deceased's relatives.

Kabale: Police in Kabale District are currently investigating the discovery of a decomposing body found in the uncompleted house of a Catholic priest.

The deceased was discovered in the residence of Reverend Father Austin Christmas, located in Kyanamira parish.

According to Mr. Orikiriza Edward, the LC2 chairman of Kyanamira Parish, the body was found on March 10, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., and the matter was reported to the Kyanamira Police Station that an unknown adult male’s decomposing body was hanging in the house under construction.

It is alleged that on March 5, 2024, during an inspection of the construction, Rev. Father Austin Christmas noticed a foul smell and instructed the parish catechist, Karemire Silvano, to investigate.

However, the boy was passing by the house on March 10, 2024, at around 7:00 a.m. and discovered the body hanging from the ceiling. The catechist was informed, who then notified the LC II and the police.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, stated that the body was removed and taken to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and identify the deceased’s relatives.

A report of suspected suicide was registered under reference number CRB 212/2024, and the district CID officer was informed.

Police urged anyone missing a loved one to visit the hospital mortuary for identification and arrangements for burial, especially when the man breaks down.
