SAD! Labourer found dead in produce container in Hoima

“We were shocked to find him dead. No one expected it. He was here in the morning, and by afternoon he was gone,” Kabayaga said.

Hoima: Grief engulfed the residents of Kiryateete Upper Cell, near Nyati Rice Millers, after a man believed to be in his 30s was found dead inside a container used for storing produce products.

The deceased, only identified as Michael, was a well-known local laborer who earned a living by loading and offloading sacks of produce in the area.

According to his colleagues, Michael had been seen earlier Monday in the morning but was tragically discovered lifeless inside the container around midday.

The container, which is often used by casual workers as a resting point, became the center of a somber scene as dozens of residents gathered in disbelief.

Ruth Kabayaga, the elected NRM flag bearer for the LC1 seat of Kiryateete Upper Cell and a trader operating directly opposite the site of the incident, recounted the heartbreaking moment.

“We were shocked to find him dead. No one expected it. He was here in the morning, and by afternoon he was gone,” Kabayaga said.

She also used the opportunity to urge community members especially casual workers and transient labourers to carry identification documents to aid in emergency situations or identification in times of tragedy.

By press time, Michael’s body remained in the container, surrounded by mourning residents, many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of someone they worked alongside daily.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the police were unsuccessful by press time as Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson was reportedly attending a meeting.
