Kagadi: Residents of Kyaleni Cell in Paacwa Town Council, Kagadi District, have been left in shock after a boat suspected to have been carrying more than 30 people capsized on River Nguse, leaving over 20 individuals missing.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at around 8:30 p.m.
The passengers were reportedly returning home from work in Kikuube District when the tragedy happened as they attempted to cross the river.
An eyewitness told our reporter that many of those on board were swept away when the boat suddenly overturned and sank.
“Many of them were swept away when the boat suddenly overturned and sank into the water, and they are still missing,” the eyewitness said.
The Mayor of Paacwa Town Council, Justus Businge, confirmed the incident and called for immediate rescue efforts to save those who may still be alive and to retrieve the bodies of the deceased.
He explained that River Nguse separates Kagadi District from Kikuube District, making it a key crossing point for residents.
“This river separates Kagadi District from Kikuube District and is frequently used by people crossing between the two districts,” he added.
Businge also appealed to political leaders and the government to urgently intervene and provide support to the affected families.
