SAD! 80 year-old killed by falling tree

Wakunga lived near Alala Primary School in Jangokoro and had been staying alone with minimal support for some time.

 Zombo: An 80-year-old man named Wakunga tragically lost his life when a banyan tree fell on him during a heavy storm in Nguthe Village, Afuda Parish, Jangokoro Sub-County, Zombo District.

The incident, which took place on November 4 around 3:00 PM, occurred as strong winds accompanying a downpour uprooted the large tree with its extensive root system and dense canopy, striking Wakunga in his compound and resulting in his death.

According to David Binen Arua, the district councillor for Jangokoro Sub-County, the incident was witnessed by a primary school student who had taken shelter nearby.

This young witness reported the event, leading local authorities and police from Jangokoro Police Post to the scene, where they confirmed Wakunga’s passing and transferred his body to family members.

“We were alerted by a primary kid who witnessed the tree being blown by strong wind when it was heavily raining here. We visited the scene together with Police from Jangokoro police post and indeed found that Muze Wakunga is dead, we retrieve the body and handed it to relatives” Arua added.
