The shirt, suspected to be stained with human blood, was recovered from the suspect as evidence.

Rubanda: Police in Rubanda District have detained a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his wife in Hamurwa Town Council.

John Muhimba is accused of killing his 45-year-old wife, Shallon Niwamanya, a resident of Karukara Cell, Karukara Ward, Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda District.

According to a police statement, there was a history of domestic violence between the deceased and the suspect. Allegedly, the wife routinely endured beatings from her husband, particularly on Tuesdays, known as Karukara Market Day.

This Tuesday, while both were running their bar/hotel business together, a quarrel erupted between them around 10:00 p.m. Muhimba insisted that his wife leave the bar, which she complied with by retiring to bed.

On Wednesday, at around 11:00 a.m., Muhimba called his neighbor, Arineitwe Deus, to his workplace. Upon arrival, Deus was directed to the bedroom, where he found Shallon Niwamanya’s lifeless body, with blood seeping from her mouth and ears.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, reported that authorities promptly responded to the incident. The scene was examined, documented, and witness statements were collected. A postmortem was conducted before the body was released to the relatives for burial.

Maate also disclosed that a shirt, suspected to be stained with human blood, was recovered from the suspect as evidence.

Meanwhile, the suspect is in cells to aid in investigations.
