Masindi: The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Masindi, Emmy Ngabirano, has asked leaders in Masindi to unite for the development of the district.
Ngabirano, who represented the state minister for water, Aisha Sekindi, as the chief guest during the celebrations for the belated Independence Day for Masindi, said that disunity among the leaders in the district is hampering service delivery and development in the district.
The district’s belated independence celebrations were held on Thursday last week at Kikingura Primary School Play Ground in Bwijanga Sub County, Bujenje County.
According to Ngabirano, the disunity among the leaders in the district is affecting the implementation of government programs like PDM, Emyooga, and others.
On the same note, he requested that the religious leaders in the district organize for prayers and spiritual guidance, adding that they can’t continue lamenting and staying in a state of disunity.
‘’We cannot continue living in this state of lamentation when our people are missing service delivery. The district chairperson should ensure their peace, harmony, and unity in the district for effective service delivery,’’ he said.
For a long time, Masindi district chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga and his counterpart Mayor for Masindi Municipality, Ronald Kyomuhendo Businge, have been in arms over a number of issues, including allocating Kayanja Land for the establishment of Bunyoro University Greater-Masindi Campus and contesting against each other for the Municipal MP seat in 2026, among others.
In September this year, the Minister of State for Public Service, Mary Grace Mugasa, intervened in the row between the Masindi district chairperson and the Municipal Mayor.
The reconciliation meeting was held at the Kolping Hotel, involving the political leaders, religious leaders, and elders’ forum.
After the meeting, the duo agreed to work together towards the development of the district and the municipality.
In the same month, Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district chairperson, assured the public that they had buried their misunderstandings and that he was ready to work with the mayor for the development of the district and municipality.
The Masindi Municipal Mayor, Ronald Kyomuhendo Businge, said he is ready to work with the district chairperson as long as he operates within his area of jurisdiction.
However, according to our observation, the two leaders seem to have not united since they have continued to attack each other in public functions.
