President Museveni passes out over 2,000 police, immigration officers

1,272 were probational police constable level three, 1,388 were special police constable level one, and 57 were immigration control officers.

Masindi: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni passed out 2,717 police and immigration control officers on Wednesday evening at the Police Training School, Kabalye, in Masindi district.

1,272 were probational police constable level three, 1,388 were special police constable level one, and 57 were immigration control officers.

President Museveni asked the officers to be disciplined, ideological, and love their country and themselves. He also asked the officers to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS, desist from alcoholism, and advance knowledge within the force.

‘’You should not die of HIV/AIDS; protect yourself; be disciplined; be ideological; and love your country, not forgetting yourself; desist from alcoholism; and advance knowledge within the force; otherwise, the future is bright,’’ he added.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Martin Okoth Ochola, charged the passed-out officers to realize that being a police officer is an honor and privilege to serve others, abide by exceptional discipline, integrity, and patriotism, and exercise extraordinary justice for the people.

He also asked them to protect themselves from diseases such as HIV/AIDS, noting that the government has spent a lot of money on them. ‘’You should realize that being a police officer is an honor and privilege to serve others, kindly abide by exceptional discipline, integrity, and patriotism, exercise extraordinary justice for the people, and protect yourself from the deadly HIV/AIDS because the government has spent a lot of money on you,’’ he asked them.

The Minister for Internal Affairs, Kahinda Otafiire, asked the passed-out police and the immigration officers to be focused, serve the country and make Uganda a better country to live in, and be focused on pursuing their careers and aiming for promotion.

According to the commandant of Kabalye Police Training School, Emito Ezekiel, the officers have undergone vigorous training and demonstrated ensuring the safety and security of the country and beyond.

He also told the president that the officers have been equipped with knowledge and skills that will enable them to carry out their duties in line with the mandate of their responsibility, with an emphasis on professional conduct and strict adherence to the public conduct of security officers to serve the community.

He also challenged the trainees to be ready to face the challenges and obstacles as they executed their duties.

The probation police constables have undergone 12-month training, the special police constables have undergone 4-month training, and the immigration control officers have undergone 2-month training.
