Pregnant women urged to embrace antenatal services

The politician, however, cautioned women not to risk giving birth at home since it comes with a lot of complications, including death.

Masindi: The Masindi district LCV Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga, has urged pregnant mothers to always seek antenatal services from health centers.

He stresses that there is still a big challenge of sensitizing women to embrace antenatal services and deliver them from health facilities or hospitals.

In an exclusive interview with this publication, Byaruhanga asserted that there are numerous reasons why women at times fail to deliver from hospitals.

The district boss said most women still have the ancient belief that they should first seek consent from their husbands before they go to hospitals, and when the husbands don’t accept them, they end up giving birth at home.

Byaruhanga also noted that some expectant mothers lack transport to take them to the health centers, some health facilities lack maternity wards, and others have no midwives.

‘’Some mothers are misled by the traditional birth attendants, and all these numerous reasons lead women to give birth at home and end up getting a lot of complications.’’

He says that as a district, they have a plan to see that they upgrade all their health centers from II to III so that they can have maternity wards in all parishes, but before that, they will make sure they do sensitization of both women and midwives through seminars so that they can handle the pregnant mothers well when they come to seek medical attention.

The politician, however, cautioned women not to risk giving birth at home since it comes with a lot of complications, including death.
