Police releases the slain Masindi DHO’s children

Cherotic and her two children who were found mopping the blood in the deceased’s house are still under police custody for more interrogation into the deceased’s murder.

Masindi: Police have released the late Dr Jino Abiriga’s children who had been arrested in connection with their father’s death.

The three were arrested together with their stepmother Betty Cherotic, 31 and her two biological children in connection with the gruesome murder of the former Masindi district health officer on Saturday night.

The six have been in custody at Masindi police station helping police investigations into the matter until Tuesday.

Speaking to this publication Wednesday evening, the Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza said the children who are all minors, were released to allow them bury their father after being cleared of any role in their father’s death.

However, Hakiza revealed that Cherotic and her two children who were found mopping the blood in the deceased’s house are still under police custody for more interrogation into the deceased’s murder.

The police spokesperson noted that the  police will send the case file on Abiriga’s death to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for perusal and legal advice and they will take the suspects to court once the file is sanctioned.

Dr.Abiriga’s body was yesterday taken to his ancestral home in Maracha district waiting to be laid to rest on Friday.
