Masindi: Police have announced that they have made a significant breakthrough in their investigation into the murder of Acting Masindi District Health Officer, Dr. Jino Abiriga, by discovering blood stains under his marital bed.

This was revealed on Monday following a visit by a team of homicide officers to the home of the late district senior health officer, who was killed under mysterious circumstances over the weekend.

In a statement released by police spokesperson Fred Enanga, a search was conducted at the deceased’s residence on Monday, and suspected blood stains were recovered from the walls in the bedroom and from under their marital bed.

He stated that although the wife claims that the victim was contacted by someone to go and perform an operation on a patient and never returned home, there is no evidence to support her claim.

Enanga adds that a team of forensic experts recovered blood stains and other samples for forensic analysis that will help establish whether the victim was murdered from his house or elsewhere, and the body dumped fear meters from his home.

‘’The deceased’s wife claims the blood stains in her bedroom were caused by her menstrual cycle. We want to inform the public that no matter how well a cover-up is made surrounding the heinous act, we will uncover the truth,’’ he added.

This homicide case is suspected to be the result of family misunderstandings and domestic violence, which has been on the rise in the country.

To aid investigations, police detectives have arrested the wife of the deceased, identified as Betty Cherotic, 31, a teacher, along with others, in connection with the brutal murder of Dr. Jino Abiriga, 58.

According to the police, the facts gathered indicate that on January 7, the victim left his home in the morning to attend a friend’s wedding. After the wedding, his driver dropped him off at his home at around 9 p.m.And at around 10 p.m., he and his wife, Cherotic Betty, went to sleep in their double-roomed house.

It is said that their children and dependents, including Angela Aseru, aged 17 (daughter to the deceased), Cherotic Maureen, aged 14 (stepdaughter), Cheprotich Kenneth, aged 11 (stepson), Afakoru Jackline, aged 12, (niece), and Arinaitwe Desire, aged 8 (daughter to his family friend), also went to sleep in their separate unit.

However, police pointed out that the lifeless body of Abiriga was found with a deep cut on the neck and multiple cuts on the head and hand, and was dumped 50 meters away from his residence.

Relatives of the murdered health officer are asking the security agencies to investigate the issue so that the deceased gets the justice he deserves.
