Masindi man killed by nephews over land

The suspects are currently detained at Masindi CPS.

Masindi: A man in Kitojo cell, Karujubu division, Masindi district, has died after allegedly being beaten by his nephews over land.

The deceased has been identified as Bernard Balinda, who was beaten from Nyakyanika village, Labongo Sub County, Masindi district, on Thursday morning by the children of his brother, who is also the Masindi District Assistant Health Officer, Patrick Baguma.

A resident of Kitojo Cell who preferred anonymity told this publication that Balinda, believed to be in his early 40s, was beaten by his nephews in the garden found on the land that Baguma had given him, which his children opposed.

The resident added that Balinda was severely injured in the beating and was rushed to Kampala for treatment, but died on the way.

Fred Kisembo, the LC1 chairperson at Kitojo Cell, said the lifeless body of Balinda was evacuated to Masindi Hospital for treatment but later referred to Mulago Hospital. He, however, died on the way to Mulago.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Alberine Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said three suspects have been arrested and detained at Masindi CPS.

Hakiza, however, didn’t disclose the particulars of the suspects in order not to jeopardize investigations.

In a related development, police in Buliisa district have arrested two individuals for assaulting their colleague to death.

The deceased, identified as David Kumaketch, was assaulted by Kennedy Abiriga and Munguromu Ozele while at Songalendu Bar in Kitahura Cell Buliisa Town Council.

Kumaketch was assaulted on March 11, 2024, at the above bar and secretly rushed to Buliisa Health Centre IV, where he was pronounced dead on March 15, 2024, at around 7 a.m.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, told our reporter that the matter was reported to Buliisa CPS, and suspects have been arrested and detained to aid in investigations.
