Hoima City stadium reaches 60% completion
The stadium, situated on 34.9 acres in Mparo Division, Hoima City, will be one of three venues Uganda intends to present for the tournament.

Hoima: Construction of the Hoima City Stadium has reached 60% completion, according to Murat Altun, the Project Manager at M/S SUMMA, the Turkish company contracted to build the stadium.
Altun made the remarks on Tuesday evening while hosting Hoima City leaders during a site visit to the stadium located in Kyarwiru Cell, Kicwamba Ward, Hoima East City Division.
“We are confident this project will be handed over for commissioning by December this year,” Altun said, expressing optimism about meeting the completion deadline.
He noted that the remaining work includes finalizing the football pitch and other surrounding facilities to ensure the stadium meets international standards in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The visiting delegation, led by Hoima East Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Moses Muyambi, included council members from Hoima West and Hoima East, as well as LC1 and LC2 chairpersons. Muyambi emphasized that the visit aimed to update local leaders on the project’s progress and engage them in its success.
Some of the leaders expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work, encouraging residents to prepare to take advantage of the economic and social opportunities the stadium will bring. Several LC1 chairpersons were pleased to discover that their constituents had secured jobs at the construction site.
The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Education and Sports, signed a contract with M/S SUMMA on June 7, 2024, to construct the 20,000-seater multi-purpose stadium as part of Uganda’s preparations to co-host the 2027 AFCON with Kenya and Tanzania.
The stadium, situated on 34.9 acres in Mparo Division, Hoima City, will be one of three venues Uganda intends to present for the tournament. Of the land, 10 acres were donated by the estate of the late Dr. Rujumba, while an additional 10 acres were sold to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) by the same estate. The remaining 14.9 acres were acquired by the Uganda National Council of Sports.
With a budget of $130 million, the stadium will primarily host soccer matches but will also be equipped to accommodate athletics and other sports. The facility is expected to significantly boost the region’s sports infrastructure and local economy.
Hoima City Stadium is anticipated to host matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and will be a landmark development for the Bunyoro sub-region and the Western Region of Uganda as a whole.
