Fort Portal business community urged to embrace fair practices for development
He said the introduction of smartphone loans is a step forward in realizing the city’s vision of becoming a smart, technology-driven urban center.

Fort Portal: The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Fort Portal, Stanley Bayole, has urged the local business community to uphold trust, integrity, and fairness as essential pillars for sustainable economic growth and business development.
Speaking at the launch of Mogo Uganda’s smartphone loan service held at Night Rose Hotel in Fort Portal on Wednesday, RCC Bayole emphasized the need for ethical business practices among Ugandan entrepreneurs.
He drew comparisons with Asian economies, attributing their success to strong mutual trust, cooperation, and adherence to fair trade principles.
“For our businesses to grow and compete, we must learn to trust one another and avoid exploiting our own people. Let us build together with honesty and fairness,” Bayole said.
He further cautioned business owners against charging exorbitant prices, warning that such practices erode consumer trust and ultimately hurt long-term profitability. The RCC also underscored the critical role of security in economic development, urging business operators to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the police.
During the same event, Albert Ahebwa, Speaker of the Fort Portal City Council, commended Mogo Uganda for choosing Fort Portal as a hub for its digital loan service.
He said the introduction of smartphone loans is a step forward in realizing the city’s vision of becoming a smart, technology-driven urban center.
“This is a timely innovation that aligns with our goal of empowering citizens through digital financial services. We welcome Mogo Uganda and look forward to seeing its positive impact,” Ahebwa remarked.
With the arrival of such tech-enabled financial services, Fort Portal continues to position itself as a progressive city embracing innovation, financial inclusion, and responsible business practices.
